Frederick D. Baxter

Frederick D. Baxter, age 83, of DeMotte, Indiana went to be with Jesus in the early morning hours on Friday, September 6, 2024. Fred was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments. He was a man of great integrity, faith, and loved the Lord. Fred was born on October 30, 1940 in Rensselaer, Indiana to Ray and Mabel (Day) Baxter. Fred loved growing up on the family farm in Remington with his two older brothers. In 1959, he graduated from Gilboa High School. Fred proudly served his country as a medic for seven years in the Army National Guard. In 1975, he graduated from Tennessee Temple University with a theology degree. His professional career was in the banking business in data processing. His faithfulness to the Lord was evident as he served as a church bus driver, usher, deacon, elder, and Sunday School Superintendent. On June 4, 1983 he married the love of his life, Patricia G. Crane (nee Thomas), in Roselawn, Indiana. Together they made a blended family with their six children and became “The Baxter Bunch”. As a family, they enjoyed many family vacations at White Oaks. Fred loved playing dominoes and euchre. He enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and NASCAR. He was well known for his love of John Deere tractors. His favorite pastime through the years was spreading joy to others as they admired the Christmas lights on the house and throughout the yard. He cherished the times whenever his family was together. Fred and Pat have always led their family by example. His legacy and greatest treasures are his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Fred leaves behind his wife, Pat, of 41 years; his daughters: Kim (Steven) Glenn, Lisa McCarty, Jodi (Alastair) Gibbons, Teresa (Rick Lewis), Jamie (Stephen) Fodness, and son, Jeremy (Karen) Crane. His grandchildren: Matthew, Tom (Morgan), Raymond, Summer (Kane) Mark, Hunter, Jake, Katelyn, Madison, Guy, Davin, Charlie, Mattie, Libby, and Allie Jo: his great-grandchildren, Amelia, Mason, and Oliver. Also surviving are Fred’s two sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, James R. and Wayne A. Baxter. Family and friends may visit at Jackson Funeral Chapel in Rensselaer on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm with a funeral service promptly beginning at 12:00 pm with Dr. Roger Taylor officiating. Interment will be held at Weston Cemetery, Rensselaer.
