Katherine "Kay" Ann Hayworth

Katherine “Kay” Ann Hayworth, 83, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Parkview Haven in Francesville, IN. She was born on June 25, 1940, to Ann Marie (Valentine) and John Joseph Yokus in North Chicago, IL. Kay graduated from North Chicago High School in 1958. Shortly afterwards, Kay met her future husband, Don, in 1959 by way of the then Great Lakes Naval Base librarian, her mother Ann, and subsequently married on November 26, 1960. They had two sons, Dain and Mike, and settled in Rensselaer, Indiana after Don’s naval career to raise their family. She worked for Dr. Francis O’Brien, Schumacher’s Electric, and she really enjoyed being a teacher’s aide at Van Rensselaer Elementary School. Kay was a devout catholic who attended St. Augustine Catholic Church her entire life in Rensselaer until moving to Parkview Haven Retirement Community in Francesville. She brought a lot of laughter and joy to those around her. She had a variety of interests and activities such as reading, painting, crafts, bingo, was the current President of the Residence Council and loved her Chicago Bears and Purdue Boilermakers. She shined by always wanting to help in any way that she could; making memories with her contagious laugh, gift of gab, and her love along the way. She adored life and her family including the wonderful Parkview Haven family-like staff and creating wonderful friendships, while some considered her the “Belle of the Ball” always looking nice and spiffy. She is survived by her two sons, Dain (Katie) Hayworth and Mike (Mary) Hayworth; five grandchildren: Ashley (Joe) Hopp, Justin (Olivia) Hayworth, Megan Hayworth, Molly Hayworth and Mitchell (Jessica, fiancé) Hayworth; four great-grandchildren: Hadley and Emersyn Hopp and Saige and Kasen Hayworth; her brother Kenny (Aleta) Yokus; her niece Kelly Markle and great-niece Maddie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ann and John Yokus and husband, Don. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 30 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with funeral services immediately following at Jackson Funeral Chapel, 250 N. McKinley Avenue, Rensselaer with Chaplain LeRoy Kinnaman officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Rensselaer.
