Bessie B. Scheurich

Bessie B. Scheurich, 83, of Remington, Ind., formerly of Rensselaer, Ind., passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2020. She was born on December 16, 1936 in Rensselaer, Ind. to Charles and Leatha (Horsewood) Dunlap. Bessie was a lifelong resident of Rensselaer, Ind. She graduated from Rensselaer Central High School as a member of the Class of 1954. On September 24, 1960, she married Robert C. Scheurich, who preceded her in death on October 27, 1996. Bessie had multiple employers throughout her career. She served as a bookkeeper for ASCS in Rensselaer. Bessie then worked for the Marion Township Assessor’s office. She went on to work for the Jasper County Auditor’s office for sixteen years and served as the County Auditor from 1980-1988. Later in her life, she was employed by Remington Freight Lines and worked there until her retirement. Throughout her life, she was also responsible for the accounting for the family’s trucking business. She was an avid bunco, card and dice player. Bessie enjoyed crocheting and reading in her spare time. She loved camping with her family and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bessie was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Rensselaer, Ind. She was also a dedicated member of the Women’s Loyal Order of the Moose Rensselaer Lodge #2272, as well as serving as Senior Regent. Bessie is survived by her children, Denise (Randy) Snyder of Rensselaer, Ind., Susan (Dirk) Abbott of Remington, Ind., and Sandra Kyburz of Lafayette, Ind.; her grandchildren, Tristan (Kyle) Curtis, Kaila Massey, Danielle (Isaiah) Ramos, Brittany (Fiancée, Jeramiah Smith) Abbott, Trenton (Kenzie) Kyburz, Hunter Kyburz, Calista Kyburz; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Rory, Adalynn, Brooklyn, Ashlyn, Caden, Cassady, Chloe, Isaiah Jr., Daymon, Lucas and Winston; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews. Bessie is also survived by her siblings, Darrell (Pat) Dunlap, Paul (Beverly) Dunlap, Cathy (Larry) Epler, Terry (Sara) Dunlap; and sister-in-laws, Diana Scheurich, Nancy Dunlap and Bonnie Dunlap. She will be missed dearly by her family and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers-in-law, Richard Scheurich and James Minter; sister, Shirley Minter; brothers, Charles Dunlap, and John Dunlap; along with two nephews, Michael Scheurich and Timothy Scheurich. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, August 14, 2020 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM CDT with a Loyal Order of Moose Service at 7:30 PM at Jackson Funeral Chapel. On Saturday, August 15, 2020 a visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 AM. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 10:30 AM CDT at Memory Gardens of Rensselaer with Rev. Kenin Smith and Pastor Paul Dyke officiating. Social distancing will be observed and masks must be worn at all services due to the current pandemic. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bessie’s honor may be made to the Mooseheart Child City and School, Inc. in Mooseheart, IL and/or the Moosehaven Retirement Community in Orange Park, FL.
