Charles Michael "Mick" Odom

Charles Michael “Mick” Odom, age 70, of Rensselaer, Indiana passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center Indianapolis, Indiana. Mick was born at the Jasper County Hospital on Dec. 24, 1946 to Charles E. “Buck” and Dorothy E. (Hiestand) Odom. Mick has been a resident of Rensselaer for 43 years. He has previously lived in Vincennes, Indiana, Fort Gordon, Georgia, Fort Hood, Texas and Lafayette, Indiana. Mick graduated from Medaryville High School, class of 1964, and Vincennes University. On November 20, 1965 at the Francesville United Methodist Church, Mick married his lifelong sweetheart, Janice K. McGee. Mick and Janice owned and operated Heritage Office Products in Rensselaer from 1974 to 2016. Mick was previously employed by Moore Business Forms Lafayette, Indiana and REMCO Office Equipment, Lafayette, Indiana. Mick was a United States Army Veteran serving three years at Fort Gordon, in Vietnam and Fort Hood and achieving rank of E-5. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Rensselaer VFW Post #1279, Rensselaer American Legion Post #29, Monticello AMVETS Post # 91, JC Merit Board, Jaycees Organization, JC Cruisers, a former Rensselaer Volunteer Fireman, and a former Rensselaer City Councilman. He was instrumental in the start up of the City of Rensselaer Recycling program. Mick is survived by; his loving wife, Janice; one daughter, Kelly (Greg) Wright of Rensselaer; two grandchildren, Taylor (Jimmy) Widner of Rensselaer and Hunter (Courtney Wuethrich) of Rensselaer; one brother, Bryan Joe “BJ” (Susan) Odom of Ft. Myers, Florida; brother in law, Doug (Deb) McGee; three nephews, Gentry Thomas Odom, Brandon (Angela) McGee, and Ryan (Liz) McGee; one niece, Amanda Odom; three great nephews, Jordan Odom, Bryson McGee and Joel McGee; four great nieces, Faith Odom, Joziel McGee, Halle McGee and Arianna McGee. Mick is preceded in death by; his parents Charles E. “Buck” and Dorothy Odom; one great granddaughter, Aven Widner and one great grandson, Westly Widner. Friends may visit with the family at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. C.D.T. Funeral services for Mick will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. C.D.T., at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer with Pastor John Hostetter officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Memory Gardens Rensselaer, Indiana. Memorials in memory of Mick may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church 107 East Angelica Street Rensselaer, Indiana 47978 and/or the American Legion Post #29 1565 N McKinley Ave, Rensselaer, Indiana 47978.
