Chelsea Dawn Shafer

Chelsea Dawn Shafer was born June 10, 1991, in Rensselaer to John and Sheila Shafer. Chelsea was born such a beautiful and determined soul. Chelsea lived her life never meeting a stranger. In school, during a field trip, Chelsea came home so hungry. I asked why she was hungry as I had packed a large lunch for her. She then tells me that she gave another kiddo her food because they didn’t have lunch. From that day on I always packed 2 lunches in her bag so she could share and still eat. Chelsea grew up with an intense love for music. She loved playing the flute in the marching band in school. Chelsea lived her life carefree and full of adventure. Adventures that would leave her stuck in a mud bog or lost on a back road excursion with a friend that almost took her to Ohio. Or driving into a tree to stop a truck that lost its brakes. She would pull pranks, be silly, and challenge everything just to have fun. This sweet silly soul had more friends than you can count. You would often hear “Hey peach!” or “Hey pumpkin!” “Pinch that baby’s cheeks” or “Stay safe and stay ornery.” Everyone who knows Chelsea has a story of how she made them smile. God has gained the most beautiful soul. Chelsea is survived by her mother, Sheila (Greg Leuck) Shafer of Rensselaer, IN; father, John (Sheri) Shafer; her siblings, Paige (Kale) Strange of Delphi, IN, Hollison Shafer of Rensselaer, IN, Dalton (Shannon Snow) Shafer of Rensselaer, IN, and Jack Shafer of Indianapolis, IN; step-siblings, Chris (Andrea) Leuck and Eric Leuck; maternal grandmother, Beulah McEwen; and her nieces and nephews, Zayden and Sophia Shafer, Warren Strange, and Holt Leuck. Chelsea was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, James McEwen, and paternal grandparents, John and Beth Shafer. A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Jackson Funeral Chapel from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM CT, with a funeral service immediately following at 4:00 PM CT with Reverend Kenin Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Jasper County Animal Shelter or the RCHS band.
