John W. Hoeferlin

John W. Hoeferlin, 72, of Wheatfield, Ind. passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020. John was born in Rensselaer, Ind. on April 20, 1948 to Robert and Shirley (Dowell) Hoeferlin. John graduated from Rensselaer Central High School with the Class of 1966. On March 14, 1970, in Barkley Township, Rensselaer, he married the love of his life, Norma Pierson. A retired farmer, John worked for many farm operations, the most recent being Larry Pfledderer. He also was a member of the Army National Guard. In his later years, John served as the buildings and grounds maintenance supervisor for St. Augustine Catholic Church. With his easy smile, caring nature, and witty humor, he was easily loved by the members of the parish and school. John’s biggest joy was helping others and being around his family, especially his grandchildren. A true handyman, he was always tinkering and fixing things. There wasn’t anything that he couldn’t repair. He had recently taken up golf to spend some relaxing days on the course with his sons and cousins. John will be greatly missed by his children, Angela (Andy) Nagel of Rensselaer, Ind., John (Esther) Hoeferlin Jr. of Lafayette, Ind., William (Barbara) Hoeferlin of Bedford, Ind., and Adam Paul (Tina) Hoeferlin of Francesville, Ind.; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren with one on-the-way; his sisters, Marge (Butch) Tillota of Rensselaer, Ind. and Liz Yeoman of Rensselaer, Ind.; his aunts, Doris Lee of Rensselaer, Ind. and Betty (Marvin) Whaley of Brook, Ind. John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Norma; his parents, Robert and Shirley Hoeferlin; his brother, Fred Hoeferlin; and brother-in-law, Raymond Yeoman. Friends and family may visit on Thursday, July 9, 2020 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm CDT at Saint Augustine Catholic Church in Rensselaer, Ind. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 10:30 am CDT at Saint Augustine Catholic Church with Rev. Donald Davison, C.PP.S. officiating. Memorial contributions in honor of John may be made to Saint Augustine Catholic School, 328 N. McKinley Ave., Rensselaer, Ind. 47978, or the Jasper Co.
