Louise Jean Huff

Louise Jean Battleday Huff, 87, of Rensselaer, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She fought a long, hard battle with lymphoma. She was born in Rensselaer, IN on December 28, 1936, the daughter of George E. and Gladys (Bill) Battleday. Jean was a 1955 graduate of Rensselaer Central High School. In 1955, she met a boy from Tennessee at Bazz’s Roller Rink, Franklin E. Huff, who became the love of her life. They married on July 3rd that same year, and he preceded her in death on August 10, 2004. Becoming a military wife in 1956, she and Frank traveled the world, including many states, England, and the Philippines. While stationed in the Philippines, Jean and her girls participated in Operation Babylift. After returning from the Philippines, Jean worked at various retail sales jobs. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, tatting, sewing, and eating lunch at Trail Tree with her friends. She also enjoyed birdwatching, especially hummingbirds and cardinals. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. She was known for her contagious laugh and spunky spirit. Louise is survived by her children, Sandra (Ken) Decker of Grand Prairie, TX, Joyce (Chris) Allegrini of Rensselaer, IN; grandchildren, Tom (Darcy) Allegrini of Remington, IN, Jennifer Johns of Powder Springs, GA, and Kevin Allegrini of Indianapolis, IN, Tirzah (Oscar) Decker-Merto of Tulsa, OK; great-grandchildren, Aurora and Roxanne; brother, Donald Battleday of Rensselaer, IN; numerous nieces and nephews. Louise was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Frank; brothers, Halden (Jo) Battleday, Robert (Agnes) Battleday; sister, Janice Still; and one sister-in-law, Bonnie Battleday. Friends may call on the family at Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM CT. A Funeral Service will be held immediately following at 5:00 PM CT with Pastor Jeff Mikels officiating. Interment will take place on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Memory Gardens, Rensselaer, IN, at 1:00 PM CT. The family would like to thank Franciscan Oncology and Hospice for their assistance and care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Happy Hands Education Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children
