Nancy P. Meyer

Nancy Patricia Meyer passed away on August 19, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Hospital East, Lafayette, Indiana. Nancy was born at the family home on December 31, 1931, to Thomas R. and Marguerite (Daugherty) Eldridge. She attended Rensselaer Schools, graduating from Rensselaer High School with the Class of 1950. On February 18, 1952, Nancy married LaVerne R. Meyer, who survives, at the parsonage of the Trinity United Methodist Church. Nancy was a farm wife and community servant. She was a longtime member of the Children of the American Revolution, the General Van Rensselaer Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Jasper County Historical Society. Nancy was a former leader of the Jasper County Hanging Grove Progressive 4's 4-H club along with being the Jasper County 4-H Genealogy project leader for many years. She worked diligently with the Rensselaer Alumni Association. She enjoyed the task of keeping records and current addresses of more than seven thousand Rensselaer alumni, and compiling that information for the Rensselaer High School Graduates Directory for more than forty years. Nancy’s hobbies included genealogy, gardening, flowers, watching I. U. basketball and attending events involving her grandchildren. Nancy was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rensselaer and the United Methodist Women’s Circle. Surviving with her husband “Chub” are their three children, Jan (Brad) DeWees of West Lafayette, Ind., Tom (Linda) Meyer and Brian Meyer, of Rensselaer; grandchildren Kelsey (Steve) DeWees Bush of West Lafayette, Courtney (Kyle) West of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; Taylor, Drew, Kolton, and Casidee Meyer all of Rensselaer; one brother, Jack (Janice) Eldridge of Rensselaer, one sister, Clara Nitzschke of Vancouver, Wash., sisters-in-law’s Doris, Mary Jane and Ruby Eldridge and brother-in-law, Jay Critser. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Tom and Marguerite, grandson Clinton Meyer, sisters Cornelia (George) Sigman, Emma Jane (Robert) Darrow, Marcella (Byrom) Phegley, Ardis Critser, infant sister, Louella and her brothers Tom, Roger, Richard and Joe Eldridge. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor John Hostetter officiating. Burial will follow at Osborne Cemetery in Rensselaer. Memorials may be made to the General Van Rensselaer DAR Chapter, the Trinity United Methodist Church of Rensselaer and/or the Charity of the Donor’s choice.
