Prudy Dobson

Prudy Dobson, age 89, of Rensselaer, Indiana, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at Autumn Trace Rensselaer. Born on June 18, 1934, in Vest, Kentucky, Prudy was the beloved daughter of Raymond and Equilla (Clemons) Messer. Prudy had a lifelong passion for learning and enjoyed attending school. On August 29, 1953, she married the love of her life, Mitchell Dobson, Jr., in Rensselaer, Indiana. Mitchell was an ordained minister at Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church, where the couple built a life centered around family and the Lord until his passing on January 18, 2007. Prudy was a dedicated homemaker and a woman of many talents. She had a true entrepreneurial spirit, operating a restaurant where she fulfilled her desire to feed those in need. Her signature dishes, especially her pies and fried chicken, were adored by many. Prudy was also an avid gardener and herbalist, tending to her plants with great care. She was a faithful member of Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church, where her strong faith and sense of fellowship shined brightly. Prudy's compassionate spirit and loving nature touched all who knew her. She is survived by her five children: Linda (Ray) Zickmund, Kathy Baunach, Vivian (Terry) Doyle, Rhonda Dobson, and Ruth (Jeff) Green. Her legacy continues with 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Patsy, Paula, and Kinnie, numerous nieces and nephews and countless extended family members. Prudy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Pearlie and Helen, and brother Moses, and her loving brother and sisters-in-law. Friends are invited to celebrate Prudy's life and pay their respects at Jackson Funeral Chapel on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., with Elder Thurman Ritchie officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Primitive Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church. Prudy's life was filled with love, faith, and a deep commitment to family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
