Rosalind "Roz" Wallin

Rosalind “Roz” Wallin, age 97, of DeMotte, Indiana, went to be with her Lord on July 9, 2022. She was born Rosalind Dorothy Dorschner, the daughter of Michael J. and Elna Petra Dorschner, in Jackson, Minnesota, on June 10, 1925. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1943 and became employed as a bookkeeper for International Harvester. On July 20, 1950, Roz was married to Thomas T. Wallin. Tom and Roz resided in Minnesota until their move to DeMotte in 1961. They raised five children and spent 47 happy years together until Tom’s death in 1997. Roz was a member of the Kankakee Valley Christian Church and the DeMotte American Legion Auxiliary. She was happiest when she was helping someone, whether it was baking cookies to gift at Christmas, helping in the church kitchen to prepare cookies and coffee, always staying to clean up and visit, or helping out a friend or family member. She loved nature and enjoyed walks, the woods, wildflowers, birds (could identify many by their song), boat rides (always in the front), the moon and clouds. One could say she had a “green thumb”—every plant seemed to thrive under her care, especially jade plants and red geraniums. Roz enjoyed being active. She spent many years bowling and golfing, requesting to get on the golf course “one last time” at age 91. Roz enjoyed playing cards and watching baseball. Another favorite was Irish music, even making many trips to the Milwaukee Irish Fest and staying until the last note was sung. Roz was known as a good cook, with homemade pancakes, chicken and dumplings, lasagna and yeast rolls being among the family favorites. Most of all, Roz valued her family and loved them dearly. Roz is survived by her children, Karen (Bruce) Herz of Muskego, WI; Kathleen (Roger) Saxon of Syracuse, IN and Saint James City, FL; Mary (Patrick) Donnelly of DeMotte, IN; Richard (Lorraine) Wallin of Double Springs, AL; Thomas (Chris) Wallin of Lake Havasu City, AZ; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Jackson Funeral Service, 200 3rd St. SW, DeMotte, IN, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service, officiated by Pastor Adam P. Somers, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village, 221 W. Division Rd., DeMotte, IN 46310, or Jasper County Veterans Council, 105 W. Washington St., Suite 102, Rensselaer, IN 47978. The family is eternally grateful to the staff at Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village for their love and care over the past three and a half years. Roz came to call Oak Grove her “home” and a “good place.” Now she is in a really good place--her heavenly home!
