Annette "Nettie" Ooms-Glessner

Annette “Nettie” Ooms-Glessner, age 89, of DeMotte, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village. Nettie was a lifelong resident of DeMotte. She was born June 19, 1932 the daughter of George and Minnie (Nannenga) Knip. Nettie was a DeMotte High School graduate, Class of 1950. She attended the approved University of Beauty Culture in Indianapolis, graduating in May of 1951. After she completed her state boards and served her apprenticeship, Nettie opened Nettie’s Beauty Shop which she operated for 50 years. On September 11, 1953 she married Gerrit “Doc” Ooms in DeMotte and he preceded her in death on July 1, 1996. She later married Gerald “Gerry” Glessner on January 25, 2003 and he also preceded her in death on January 27, 2013. Nettie was a member of the American Reformed Church where she was also a custodian for 12 years. Nettie is survived by her loving children: Phyllis Belstra of DeMotte, IN; Beverly (Bill) DeVries of DeMotte, IN; Allan (Donna) Ooms of DeMotte, IN; step-son, David Glessner of Cicero, IN; 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren on the way. She is preceded in death by her parents, George & Minnie; husbands, Doc & Gerry; son-in-law, Bob Belstra; step-son, Michael Glessner; brother, Gerald (Marge) Knip; sister, Jeanette (Omer) Fleming. Friends and family may visit on Friday, May 13, 2022 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at the American Reformed Church of DeMotte. A funeral service will be held at American Reformed Church on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 10:30 AM at the church with Rev. Steven DeVries & Jill Kohlhagen officiating. Interment will follow at Holland Cemetery, DeMotte, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Nettie’s name to the Jasper Co. Veteran Affairs and/or Donor’s Choice.
