Evelyn G. Hoekstra

August 19, 1926 - February 2, 2022

Evelyn G. Hoekstra, age 95, of DeMotte, IN passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village. Evelyn was born on August 19, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to Jacob and Bertha (Oosting) Schurman. She married the love of her life, Drewes “Duke” Hoekstra on March 11, 1949 in Momence, Illinois, and they were married for 62 wonderful years. They previously lived in Grant Park, Illinois, and moved to DeMotte in 2000. He preceded her in death on October 20, 2011. Evelyn was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of DeMotte. In her younger days she enjoyed bowling and golf, and loved gardening, traveling, and listening to music. It was her joy to care for her home and family. Evelyn is survived by her loving sons: Jim (Cindy) Hoekstra; Jack (Lynn) Hoekstra; Dave (Barb) Hoekstra; and Don (Lisa) Hoekstra; 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 4 brothers: Clarence “Click”, Maynard “Mick”, Henry, and Jacob Schurman. Friends and family may visit at Jackson Funeral Service of DeMotte, on Monday, February 7, 2022 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will follow immediately on Monday at Jackson Funeral Service of DeMotte at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jim Alblas officiating. For everyone’s safety, the family requests masks be worn. A private burial will be held at Holland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Evelyn’s name to the Bible League or DeMotte Christian School.
