April 22, 1927 - April 17, 2021
Marietta (Latoski) Rafferty, 93, of Rensselaer, Indiana, formerly of South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully at home on April 17, 2021 after suffering from COVID-19 for 10 days. Born April 22, 1927 in the home her father built on Ironwood Dr in South Bend. She is survived by her husband, Florn Patrick (F.P.) “Wedge” Rafferty, her favorite daughters Diane (Donald) DeBlock of Osceola, IN, Brenda Yadav of Scottsdale, AZ, and Bethanne (Greg) Hall of Hawthorn Woods, IL: grandchildren, Isabella Yadav of Scottsdale and Christopher (Allison) DeBlock and great- granddaughter Ara Louise DeBlock of South Bend: along with her sister-in-law Jannette Rafferty and many loving nieces and nephews. Marietta is pre-deceased by her parents, Stanley Blaze and Barbara Margaret (Niezgodski) Latoski, two infant sisters, Theresa and Josephine, her sister Bernadette (Leonard) Micinski, and brothers, Stanley and Thomas, and son-in-law, Stephen Szrom. Marietta and Florn were married October 10, 1959 at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church in South Bend. Relocating to Rensselaer in 1972, they built their forever home in 1978. Marietta was employed as the Assistant Registrar of St. Joseph’s College from 1973-1993. She always went out of her way to make the students from the South Bend area feel extra welcomed when they came into her office. Marietta enjoyed researching her family history, reading, playing solitaire, embroidery, and just visiting. Throughout their married life she supported Wedge’s many endeavors: business owner, sports car racing, airplane construction, building a 48 home Cranberry Estates subdivision in Penn Township, just to name a few. They enjoyed becoming snowbirds in the Port Charlotte, FL area after retirement. Marietta was generous and kind and took selfless care of Wedge and the girls; and as they grew older, he took wonderful care of her. Theirs was a good marriage. She is forever loved and greatly missed. A special Thank You to Donna Bailey and family and Germaine Schenk for their loving attention. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine Parish in Rensselaer, IN. The family prefers no floral or plant arrangements.
