Ruth Ann Peterson

March 7, 1950 - November 15, 2020

Ruth Ann Peterson, age 70, of DeMotte, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2020, at Southlake Methodist in Merrillville. She was born March 7,1950, in Rensselaer, the daughter of Steve and Cornelia “Nell” (Miedema) DeHaan, both deceased. Ruth was a graduate of DeMotte High School, Class of 1968. She married the love of her life, Marvin Peterson, on January 4, 1969 in DeMotte, Indiana. Ruth was a member of American Reformed Church of DeMotte. She spent most of her years taking care of her family and household, although she also worked at Jackson Funeral for several years. Ruth spent over 20 years volunteering at Good Neighbor Food Pantry. She went on trips with ARC youth groups and with Marv on work trips to Central America. Ruth worked on several committees at church, taught and helped with Sunday school, bible school and Vacation Bible School, volunteered as a mentor for Kids Hope, and was a board member of the Fairchild House. She was always ready to help people in any way she could. Ruth loved life, vacationing, being with friends and family, playing cards and board games with friends. She was loved by her family and will be greatly missed. Ruth is survived by her husband, Marvin Peterson of DeMotte, IN; twin daughters: Dawn Cullings of DeMotte, IN; Denise (Mark) Orsburn of DeMotte, IN; son, Randy (Dawn) Peterson of DeMotte, IN; 7 grandchildren: Kristian and Morgan Cullings, Emma and Eva Orsburn, Reece, Sydney and Jake Peterson; great-granddaughter, Charlotte Cantwell; siblings: Grace (Gil) Lyzenga, Ken (Vicki) DeHaan, Frank (Jona) DeHaan, Alice (Louis) Mann, Clarence (Judy) DeHaan, Beverly (Ron) Rader. Friends and family may visit on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at American Reformed Church in the Fellowship Hall from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. The family asks that social distancing must be observed and masks must be worn at all services due to the current pandemic. Please, no social embracing for the safety and health of everyone. A Funeral Service, for close friends and family only, will be held on Friday, November 20, 2020 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Troy Nannenga officiating. Service will be livestreamed via American Reformed Church website, demottearc.com Click on Funerals. Interment will follow at Holland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Neighbor Food Pantry (7113 7th St SW), Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (262 Danny Thomas Pl. Memphis, TN 38105 or st.jude.org).
