Deana Kay George

Deana Kay George, 72, of Rensselaer, IN, passed away on August 14, 2024. Born on February 25, 1952, in Rensselaer, IN, she was the daughter of Dean and Eileen (Merriman) Putt. Deana graduated from Rensselaer Central High School with the class of 1970 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education from Purdue University. She furthered her education and earned her Master’s Degree in Library Science at Indiana University. Deana dedicated much of her career to education and community service. She worked as a librarian at Rensselaer Central High School and South Newton School Corporation. Her passion for education extended to St. Joseph’s College, where she was involved in research and fundraising efforts. Alongside her husband Estel, whom she married on August 3, 1974, she also contributed her skills to their State Farm Insurance Agency in Rensselaer. Active in her community, Deana was a member of the First Christian Church of Rensselaer and the Sigma Alpha Chi sorority. She volunteered her time with 4-H and was involved in various community activities, including the Rensselaer Bomber Boosters. She was also a long-time member of the Curtis Creek Golf Club and the Indiana State Teachers Association. Deana’s family and friends remember her for her dedication, kindness, and unwavering support. She was so loved by her family and others in the community and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her father, Dean Putt; her husband, Estel George; their children, Eric George and Natalee George-Mace; and her grandchildren, Avery George, Abrigail George, Noah Mace, and Landon Mace. She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Babcock and Melanie Augustine. Deana was preceded in death by her mother, Eileen Putt. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM CT. A funeral service will be held at the same location on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 10:30 AM CT, with Pastor Jeff Seger officiating. Deana will be laid to rest at Weston Cemetery in Rensselaer. Memorial contributions in memory of Deana may be made to the First Christian Church of Rensselaer, 327 N Van Rensselaer St Rensselaer, IN 47978 or to the Bombers for Academic Excellence
