Guy E. Lucas

Guy E. Lucas, 77, of Rensselaer, Indiana, passed away at his home on July 23, 2026. Guy was born on May 17, 1949, in LaPorte, Indiana, to Carl and Betty Joe (Taylor) Lucas. He graduated from North Judson High School with the Class of 1967 before earning his bachelor's degree in Agricultural Education from Purdue University. On February 5, 1972, Guy married the love of his life, Barbara Hannon, in West Lafayette, Indiana. Together they shared more than 54 years of marriage, building a life centered on family, faith, and hard work. Guy dedicated more than four decades of his career as the grain elevator manager at Wheatfield Grain, where he earned the respect of local farmers and colleagues through his knowledge, dependability, and commitment to agriculture. He also proudly served his community as a volunteer firefighter for Bass Lake, always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. A lifelong supporter of Purdue University, Guy was an active member of the John Purdue Club and the Purdue Alumni Association. He was an avid gardener who took pride in growing and preserving his harvest through canning. He also enjoyed hunting, cooking for family and friends, and spending time outdoors. Whether tending a garden, preparing a meal, or sharing stories with those he loved, Guy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Above all, Guy cherished his family. He took great pride in his son and grandchildren and treasured the time they spent together. He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Lucas; his son, Andrew (Sheila) Lucas of Valparaiso, Indiana; his grandchildren, Etan Lucas of Fort Knox and Andrea Lucas of Valparaiso; and his sisters, Brenda Franey of Maine and Patty Redlin of Knox, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Betty Joe Lucas. In accordance with Guy's wishes, no public services will be held at this time. Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer has been entrusted with the cremation rites. Guy will be remembered as a hardworking and humble man whose love of agriculture, dedication to his community, and devotion to his family left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His kindness, quiet strength, and generous spirit will be deeply missed.
