Sharon Lea Hopkins

Sharon Lea Hopkins, age 81, of Rensselaer, IN, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at her residence. Sharon was born in Rensselaer, IN on October 23, 1940, the daughter of Robert and Fern (Gaines) Wilcox. Sharon graduated from Rensselaer High School with the Class of 1958. On June 22, 1958, in Rensselaer, IN she married the love of her life, James William Hopkins, and he preceded her in death on April 1, 2020. Sharon worked as a bookkeeper at William O. Hopkins Trucking and briefly as a nurse’s aide at the former Jasper County Hospital. Sharon was a member of the First Christian Church in Rensselaer, IN. She was also a member of XI OTA XI Sorority. She delivered meals and managed the Meals on Wheels program for over 20 years and was a past Cub Scout Den Mother. Sharon enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards and dominoes with the Phegley’s and other friends. She also tried to experience life to its fullest by skydiving, parasailing, and having fun with her grandchildren. She was willing to help out wherever there was a need. Always with a smile. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Sharon is survived by her children, James (Holly) Hopkins of Rensselaer, IN, Laura (Troy) Roberts of Rensselaer, IN, and Michael (Kelli) Hopkins of Skiatook, OK; grandchildren, Brienne (Craig) Hooker, Samantha (Josh) Pepple, William Hopkins, Emily Hopkins, Beth Hopkins, Geoffrey Hopkins, and Alexander Hopkins; great grandchildren, Lucy Pepple and Magdeline Hooker; sister-in-law, Jeri (Don) Fork of Kouts, IN. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James, parents-in-law, her son, Jeffery Hopkins and son-in-law, Troy Roberts. The family wants to give a special thank you to Becki Morrill for being such a great help in the care of our mother for many years. You are truly part of the family. The family has requested private services at this time. Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer has been entrusted with the arrangements.
